The health-care sector posted mild gains as investors turned cautious ahead of the holiday-lengthened weekend.

Shares of Kinnate Biopharma were higher after biotechnology royalty aggregator XOMA said it would acquire the company at a price between $2.3352 and $2.5879 a share.

Shares of Shockwave Medical rose after the medical device maker’s sales and profit topped expectations in the fourth quarter.

Shares of Denali Therapeutics fell after the biotech company’s Phase 2 study to treat patients with its amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with an oral brain-penetrant inhibitor missed the primary endpoint.

AMN Healthcare Services shares slid after the healthcare personal services company missed analysts’ expectations for fourth-quarter earnings.
